This annual event, held to mark World No Tobacco Day, aimed to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and to promote a healthier, tobacco-free lifestyle.

The walkathon commenced at 07:00AM in the morning at the Freedom Park and covered a significant route through key areas of Bengaluru before concluding at Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall. It saw the participation of various educational institutions, healthcare professionals, government officials, and enthusiastic citizens. The volunteers carried banners and placards with messages highlighting the dangers of tobacco use, including its association with serious health issues such as cancer, heart disease, and respiratory problems. Their slogans and chants of SAY NO TO TOBACCO” echoed the event’s theme, reinforcing the importance of quitting tobacco and encouraging others to join the cause.

In addition to walking, the NSS RUAS actively engaged with the public, distributing informative brochures and flyers about the adverse effects of tobacco. The walkathon culminated in a gathering where speakers, including health experts and government officials, addressed the crowd. They shared insights on the impact of tobacco on health and the economy, and the collective responsibility to create a tobacco-free society.
