World Environment Day - Alternative'24


On 1st June,2024 commemorating World Environment Day” Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences as Lead Academic Partner with Vimove Foundation celebrated — Alternative’24 — Youth for Green and Vibrant Bengaluru”. The event commenced with an inauguration ceremony featuring Shri. M R Sreenivasa Murthy, IAS (Retd.) – Chief Executive, Gokula Education Foundation, Shri. N. Manjunath Prasad, IAS – Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment Department and Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, GoK, Shri. Tushar Giri Nath, IAS – Chief Commissioner, BBMP, and prominent environmentalists, academicians and with over 1200 youths taking part in the event.

Addressing the students, chief guests in their Keynote speeches highlighted the importance of sustainable living and the role of youth in driving environmental change. The celebration included dance performance on the theme Panchatathva” by Team Bharavase” highlighting the significance of five elements of nature in human life while accentuating the beauty of nature and the need for its preservation.

Alternative’24 – Youth for Green and Vibrant Bengaluru” was a digital driven initiative encouraging youths of Bengaluru between the age of 18 to 30 to submit video reels with innovative ideas and solutions to address the environmental challenges being faced by silicon city. 5 thematic areas — 1) Transportation Transformation: Rethinking Mobility in Cities, 2) Water Conservation, 3) Necessity of Green Spaces (Afforestation, Parks, Urban Terrace Gardening Etc.,), 4) Waste Management Solutions, 5) Green Energy Solution. Over 100 teams had participated in this initiative and RUAS bagged 2nd and 3rd place with cash prize by Mr. Manoj C & Team – B.Tech(EEE), FET and Ms. Kushi Agarwal & Team – BPT, RCPT under Waste management solutions respectively. Initiative also featured collection of youth survey with emphasis on #BrandBengaluru, youths and students of various HEI across Bengaluru had participated in the same and survey report was released during the event.

Event concluded with Round table discussion themed on Empowering Youth for Decision Making Towards Sustainable Development of Bengaluru” with Shri. R V Ram Prasanth Manohar, IAS — Chairman, BWSSB, Ms. Preeti Gehlot, IAS — Special Commissioner(Forest, Environment and Climate Change/​Education), BBMP, Shri. Balachandra H. C IFS, Member Secretary — KSPCB, GoK, and Dr. Prathap Lingaiah, State NSS Officer — State NSS Cell, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, GoK as panelists
